Virtualization Training

Information Technology Programs Offering Virtualization Training

If you are looking to start a new career in IT or enhance your IT skills, you have several options for getting server virtualization technology training. Colleges and  the virtualization software companies themselves have various information technology programs that include virtualization training.

College Degree Information Technology Programs

Most major and small colleges, from traditional to technical colleges, do offer virtualization technology courses. At four-year universities, typically these are part of a broader computer science, IT, or information systems degree program. Two-year universities and technical colleges may offer specialty programs and certificates that focus solely on virtualization.

Many colleges have employed server virtualization technology to handle the growing demand for online courses and to provide virtual computer labs. This also opens opportunities for many students to intern or take entry-level positions on campus that will give them up-to-date experience with managing virtual servers in an environment with thousands of users.

VMware IT Academies

Colleges around the world, including several in the U.S. such as Arkansas State University, Georgia Southern University, California State University Sacramento, and Salt Lake Community College have partnered with VMWare to teach VMWare software based virtualization technology to college students enrolled in the college’s information technology programs. With this program, while students earn a more general IT related degree, they can also become VMware Certified Professionals through the use of donated VMware developed curriculum, hardware, and software. This professional certification positions them ahead of other recent college graduates when applying for IT jobs.

Certification Programs

Every company that has virtualization technology software and hardware on the market also offers training in the implementation  and management of their technology. These certification programs combine multiple courses and exams to create an official professional certification that is specific to that company’s software and hardware. For example, through VMware you can earn certifications in datacenter virtualization and desktop virtualization. Microsoft offers certifications in its Windows desktop and server virtualization technologies.

Professional Development Courses

These courses, designed for the IT professional or business manager, give information and training in virtualization technologies that can be put to use on the job immediately. These can be found at some colleges outside of the university’s degree information technology programs. For example, the Stanford Center for Professional Development at Stanford University has regular webinars and seminars on various information technology topics such as desktop virtualization.
